What is a Tricky Tray?

As per Wikipedia: A tricky tray auction is a combination of a raffle and an auction that is typically featured at charity, church festival and numerous other events. Can also be known as penny social, tricky tray or pick-a-prize according to local custom.

The difference between a raffle and a tricky tray is that in a raffle with multiple prizes, there is one "hat" from which names are drawn, but in a tricky tray, each prize (or basket) has its own "hat". This allows ticket buyers to choose which prize to focus on, as opposed to having a first, second, third, etc. prize.

Our Tricky Tray is one of our biggest fund raisers. In prior years, we have bought new uniforms for the marching band, new risers for the Choirs to use, new drums for the drum line, a new sousaphone for the marching band, and flags for the color guard. This year we are focusing on enhancing all areas of our music program, not dedicating the tricky tray proceeds to just one project.
